New, Nordic ConTech partnership brings Unicontrol 3D to new Scandinavian markets

Unicontrol signed a partnership agreement with a Swedish supplier of machine control technology, L5 Navigation. The partnership will bring Unicontrol3D to the rest of Scandinavia. 

The new generation of the machine control system, L5 U3D-X, will be launched in Sweden, Norway, and Finland, as a part of L5’s product range. The system will be distributed and serviced by L5 Navigation. The official launch is on the 1st of March, and people can already place orders.

The system’s core is our software, Unicontrol3D, a user-focused system developed by people with in-depth technical knowledge and many years of experience from the machine control industry. The main goal is to make the operator’s job easier, something both Unicontrol and L5 Navigation strive for.

Our CEO, Ehsan Ekhlas, says: “Unicontrol is immensely excited to partner up with L5. With Unicontrol3D, a combined hardware platform, and L5’s local market and machine knowledge, we are confident that we have a product that fits the needs of any contractor, operator, and machine across the different markets. L5 Navigation is an established distributor in the respective markets with a deep understanding of the industry’s demand and experience. They have been searching for the next system that focuses on the end customer, the machine operator, and a system applied to all types of excavators.

CEO of L5 Navigation, Martin Lindgren, says: “Machine control is perceived as a bit complicated, but now we see great opportunities to let more people take part in its full potential with an extremely easy-to-use system. Also, we have always had the ambition to develop a solution that provides better profitability much faster than our industry colleagues, which we consider ourselves to have succeeded in”.

Unicontrol signed a deal with the biggest Danish construction company, Aarsleff

Unicontrol is now the leading supplier of machine control for all compact excavators at Aarsleff.

Bo Mikkelsen, head of the machinery division in Aarsleffs construction and earthmoving department, says :

“We see Unicontrol and the team behind as an exciting bid for machine control with 3D solutions for excavators with a swingarm in our case. Pricing is reasonable, and they are the first movers in the area of smaller-to medium-sized excavators when it comes to 3D machine control systems. Simultaneously, it is a very userfriendly and attractive solution, especially in our 8-tonnes excavators, as this segment quite often has different operators, he says.

“To Aarsleff, it is essential that we have a reliable backup from our suppliers. Unicontrol is very strong in support and living up to our high expectations in their journey to become an established supplier of machine control systems”, he adds.

Frank Andreasen, machine instructor at Aarsleff, comments:

“We have for some time been looking for a system that fits into our small and midsized excavators. The systems that we use on our bigger excavators are too expensive and complicated for the smaller machines. The system from Unicontrol, on the other hand, fits because it is easily installed and reasonably priced. It is fast and easy for the operator to get comfortable operating the system, even when he has no previous experience with machine control – this is an essential issue in a busy everyday operation like ours”.

Ehsan Ekhlas, CEO in Unicontrol says:

“This is a breakthrough for us. The deal means that our products and solutions have been acknowledged and recognized by one of the major construction companies, even by northern European standards, and this can lift us to a higher level in development, both in Denmark and
internationally, he says, and he continues:

“And that is precisely our objective, set together with our investors and co-owners. Working with our system installed means improving efficiency because the system is developed on a high level of user-involvement and process-analyses of the construction industry’s workflow”.

Unicontrol has focused on research in concepts and processes in the construction sector to develop a userfriendly system. A smoothly integrated system into an existing workflow can improve excavating operations effectively by more than 30 per cent.

Great results from our first customer survey!

We have just had our first anniversary since the launch of Unicontrol3D in September 2019. To mark the occasion, we decided to carry out our first in-depth customer satisfaction survey. As a start-up, having an ongoing dialogue with our customers is central to meet their needs and learn from their experiences. We take pride in co-creating Unicontrol based on customer input and feedback – and celebrate when a customer appreciates that we have taken on an idea or met a need. Our positive customer focus is reflected in our customer survey: Nearly 90% of participating customers rate our Service and Support with 4 or 5 stars – and there are no responses rating Service and Support below 3 stars.

The survey also confirms how timesaving Unicontrol3D is as a tool. 60% say they are cutting down work time on a job by 10-30%, 25% say 30-60% of timesaving when using Unicontrol3D on a job. The reduction in time – and resources, is due to Unicontrol3D accurately taking over duties and work by a surveyor and handman working outside the excavator.

It is crucial for the operator to feel comfortable working independently with the system to achieve the reduction in time and resources. And that’s where simplicity and user-friendliness become important. We couldn’t quite believe the results ourselves, but the survey shows that 99% of our customers say Unicontrol is extremely easy to use. A surveyor comments:

“One of my operators is challenged by numbers and letters, but he can work Unicontrol without problems.”

Of course, our customers had feed-back that will make us even stronger as a machine control system too. Tech-products must always be in constant development to meet the needs of users. The last year, Unicontrol3D has become even faster and increasingly stable – an ongoing development process motivated by a mission to create a navigation system tailored to the needs of the operator.

Our hard work to achieve this is reflected in the survey too: Nearly 90% of our customers rates us with 4 or 5 stars in terms of overall product satisfaction. We feel very privileged to have such positive feedback after just one year on the market – and will continue the process of developing the market’s most user-friendly 3D navigation system for excavators.

Investing in machine control is a big decision for most contractors. It may seem risky to put that much money into a tool and trust that it will provide the promised benefits necessary for a modern contractor.

R.S. Entreprenør ApS considered investing in machine control for years, but found the systems on the market too expensive for his needs and couldn’t quite see how much an investment would make a return. It took a new operator with machine control experience, who spoke highly of the benefits for R.S Entreprenør ApS to start researching seriously.

New developer in our Polish team

This week we welcome our new full-time developer, Filip, who will be joining our team of developers working from Gliwice in Poland.
Whilst our central office is based in Denmark, Unicontrol was born as a global project with a remote team based in Poland. We have been thriving from this structure, which has not only ensured high-quality tech development – but also prepared us for expanding our company to other countries. We’ve done international teamwork right from the start and we’re good at it.
In Poland, we’ve got 2 heavyweight developers and one of our founding directors working on a new product, which we’ll launch in the autumn. The product will enable our customers to have greater data access and thereby take more control of analytics, reporting, and quality assurance when using Unicontrol3D.
With an impressive track record of developing multiplayer games and gamification concepts in the gaming industry, Filip brings a creative perspective to Unicontrol. This ability will be useful to make data storing and generating even more accessible for professionals working with excavators in the construction industry. Here is what Filip thinks about his new role:
‘This is an ambitious project, so there’s a lot to learn and opportunities to grow as developers. It’s great to work on a new product from scratch with such an experienced team. It’s also nice to resolve real industry issues instead of just provide some fun for players in the game world.’
Filip will be working alongside Jarek, who has years of experience from all over the world building and maintaining complex web-based solutions. Together with Zbigniew, one of our founding directors, they form a strong team of developers – and we’re looking forward to presenting their hard work when ready in the autumn: Watch this space!

Getting Zero Height right the simple way!

One of the really big benefits that a 3D navigation system offers the operator is the ability to find the exact Zero Height independently regardless of the type of surface that a given excavator is working on. This opportunity is liberating for the operator – and one of Unicontrol3D’s core functionalities reducing the need for handmen radically. The operator can carry out a job all on his own, provided the correct data is available for the system.

The complex 3D mapping enables the system to direct the bucket to the exact point of a given depth from zero height. The simple and extremely user-friendly interface of Unicontrol 3D makes it even more straightforward for the operator to work independently.

Unicontrol 3D supports Rototilt tiltrotator

When investing in an excavator, tiltrotators have become a popular and mainstream attachment to further enhance flexibility and efficiency. Combined with Unicontrol 3D machine control it really can’t get much easier to complete an accurate and fully documented job.
Unicontrol 3D has supported Engcon’s tiltrotator since August 20. We’re developing fast in dialogue with customers, who gave us great feedback in this integration. Tiltrotators are different and require special attention to achieve the best integration. Thatøs why we’re pleased that we have now branched out to support Rototilt’s tiltrotator.

Wheel excavator with 8 sensors

Our system is a product in constant development. This week we installed and calibrated our first system on a wheel excavator, which furthermore had both dual and swing boom. This combination of functionalities was also new for us – and the above beauty of a wheel excavator became the machine, we have installed the most sensors on so far.

Unicontrol3D is a complex navigation system, operating and guiding the operator via high-quality sensors attached to all available functionalities. In this case, the Takeuchi TB295W has no less than 8 sensors attached across the machine: One on pitch/role, one on the swingboom – and one for the boom, dual boom, and stick. There is a sensor on the bucket, one on the tilt, and finally one on the Engcon tilt rotator. Two crucial GNSS receivers ensure the necessary signal for all sensors to work out where the bucket is. The system is detachable and can be installed on another excavator if needed.

We’re pleased to report that our system is running smoothly with this new combination of dual and swing boom – and wish MVN Enterprise all the best with Unicontrol3D.

The only system offering full support of the swing boom

Surely the point of machine control is for it to support the most important functionalities of an excavator. Yet Unicontrol3D remains the only system supporting the swing boom – a crucial feature for many operators in the industry.

The swing boom is one of the major advantages of a compact excavator. It simply creates the necessary flexibility needed for digging around potential obstacles. Check out how the operator can closely monitor the movements of the swing boom in this short film clip.

Our system makes it possible for the operator to maximize the swing boom functionality and its flexibility. A dedicated sensor attached to the swing boom measures and determines exactly where to dig. The operator can read trusted data in real-time when the bucket moves – and is thereby informed in which direction to send it.

Supporting excavators with city boom

This week, we have calibrated our two first systems for excavators with a city boom for Skjern Maskinforetning A/S. They will be used for a big project in Western Jutland, Denmark, preparing the grounds for a large waterpark.

The city boom is designed to increase the flexibility of the excavator – and makes more space for the bucket as it allows it to come closer to the cabin. That’s the reason why it is especially useful when working in the city, where the space needed to reverse may be a challenge.

With regards to a 3D navigation system, it requires a little extra mathematical modeling to adapt the system to the flexibility of the city boom. Our system is on an exciting journey and taking off in the construction industry – and so we need to meet our customers’ needs, where possible. We’re excited that we’re now able to offer a great, user-friendly 3D navigation system to customers using excavators with city boom.
